The Wonder of Light
12x16, Oil on linen & ACM, 2026
‘Radiant warmth blankets the land,
While colors linger where I stand.’
This piece began with a photo a friend took on his morning walk that immediately caught my attention. I used it as a starting point, studied the location, gathered references, and brought everything back to the studio to refine the painting with intention.
Over the course of many weeks, this painting became less about rushing to a finish and more about learning how to sit with problems instead of skipping over them. It taught me patience, reflection, and the value of really digging into weak areas—adjusting temperature, tightening value control, and refining the composition so the viewer’s eye naturally moves through the painting while still being drawn back to the warmth of the light.
This was a turning point for me. It changed how I approach my work and how I trust the process. Everything I learned here is something I’ll keep building on in every painting that follows.
